Virtual Staff Development Posted on 7/21/2009
Pender County Schools employees are taking their first steps into a technology-rich world called Second Life. The district is a pioneer in the use of this virtual world for staff development. Late last year, the district partnered with LearnNC and their course on Virtual Worlds for Collaboration and Teaching. In April of this year, the Pender County Schools Second Life island hosted a session as part of the North Carolina Distance Learning Association's annual virtual conference on the topic of video games in the classroom. Over the summer several district teachers and administrators participated in immersive staff development opportunities in the virtual world including a very special talk by virtual worlds pioneer Peggy Sheehy on her groundbreaking work using Teen Second Life in the middle school. Pender County Schools is very excited to be a pioneer in this emerging educational medium. |
