Electric Vehicle Class Earns National Championship

MR2

The Topsail High School Electric Vehicle Class recently completed a new conversion, a 1991 Toyota MR2.  The car was completed just in the nick of time in order to compete in the
SMARTT (Students Making Advancements in Renewable Transportation Technology) Challenge competition held in Raleigh, NC this past May. The hard work and dedication of the class paid off in a big way when they collected their sixth straight national championship against 15 teams from as far away as Iowa!  The team brought home 12 trophies in several events including range, vehicle design, website and oratorical. The car is a 156 volt DC system and is capable of driving 60 miles and has a top speed of over 100 mph!  The class has plans to convert a new truck this year to replace the original Ford Ranger that was sold this spring.  You can keep up to date with the conversion by following the Topsail EV Blog with this link: http://thsev.blogspot.com/
