Virginia Wright-Frierson, Wilmington artist, was in residence at Burgaw Middle School, September 28 through October 1. The residency was sponsored by the North Carolina Grassroots Arts Program and Pender County  Council.  Ms.. Wright-Frierson worked with sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students in Burgaw Middle's art room.

Sixth graders worked individually on canvasses to produce abstract impressions based on a still-life.  The finished works may be displayed seperately or together to form a mural.
Seventh graders worked on individual canvasses  inspired by the work of local born artist, Minnie Evans.  Ms. Wright-Frierson has a special appreciation for Minnie Evans, having built the bottle chapel to honor Minnie Evans at Airlie Gardens.
Eighth graders painted on a large canvas to depict the eco systems found across North Carolina.
Millie Rowe, Burgaw Middle School's art specialist, is assisting Ms. Wright-Frierson in the completion of the murals.  Completed  artworks will be displayed in the school and the community.
